Born in Barakaldo (Spain) in 1979. I joined the Faculty of Engineering (ETSI, www.ingeniaritza-bilbao.ehu.es) of the University of the Basque Country (Spain) to study Electrical Engineering, obtaining my M.Sc. degree in May 2003. I received my first PhD degree (cum laude) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Navarra (Spain) in 2006, and a second PhD degree (again cum laude) in Signal Processing, Machine Learning and Optimization from the University of Alcala (Spain) in 2013. From 2003 to 2005 I got affiliated to TECNUN (University of Navarra, www.tecnun.es) as an assistant professor. From August to December 2007 I was a visiting scholar at the University of Delaware (USA), and from February to December 2008 I was an assistant professor and researcher at the University of Mondragon, Spain.

Currently I am the technology director of the OPTIMA (Optimization, Modeling and Analytics) area at TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION. My research interests are focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning, heuristics and in general, descriptive, prescriptive and predictive analytics for paradigms arising in diverse fields such as smart grids, telecommunications (with an emphasis on cognitive radio), economics, operational research and smart mobility, among many others. In these fields I have published more than 240 technical papers and conferences, supervised 8 PhD thesis, 20 M.Sc. thesis, edited 2 books, invented 6 patents, and led several basic and applied research projects. I am also actively involved in the organization of various international conferences, either in charge for chairing positions or as a TPC member. I am a senior member of the IEEE , and have been awarded the “Talent of Bizkaia” prize for my professional curriculum.
